It's my experience that in the day to day grind of trying to help our students reach academic goals we sometimes forget that what's most important are the simple human relationships we form. Thinking about Su's essay always brings me back to that essential learning. Thank you for this beautiful message. It also allowed me to reflect and think about the relationships I had with my students. An important process for every educator to spend time doing. I'm sure he was proud of all you have accomplished and all that you continue to accomplish. The way you have passed on his vision to generations of math teachers and their students is a worthy tribute. I look forward to following the link and looking through the archives.Joe Schwartzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02304083254248927187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1907702537884089718.post-88417900011106848442016-05-02T13:27:06.761-07:002016-05-02T13:27:06.761-07:00Thanks Turtle! Thanks Turtle!Joe Schwartzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02304083254248927187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1907702537884089718.post-72487629012504721032016-05-02T10:16:58.475-07:002016-05-02T10:16:58.475-07:00Thanks, Joe, for your post. As a mathematician, he was deeply interested in education and tried to bridge the gap that too often exists between university math and education departments. I keep on my desk something he wrote many years ago: <br />"Teaching is an art; the creative development of mathematics as carried on by matehmaticians is is an art; creative administration in the sense of creating and maintaining a suitable environment within which teaching can occur is an art; and, to make matters worse, learning (on the level of learning anything so complex and diverse as mathematics) is an art." <br />Bob's films are archived and available: http://library.webster.edu/archives/findingaids/madison/index.htmlMarilyn Burnshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16127025673987723020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1907702537884089718.post-51275601172536164522016-05-02T08:23:44.573-07:002016-05-02T08:23:44.573-07:00Beautiful.
